All,

While disassembling and inspecting my 1976 FJ40 (4.11) front axle assembly,
I see what appears to be galling of the ring and pinion teeth faces. They
don't seem to be worn or chipped, not bits of metal at the bottom, but
galled apparently due use only in high stress 4 wheeling. Considering a
front locker and 35" Swampers, I think this might be somewhat normal. Is
it? Has any one else experienced this?

When I put it back together, what lubricant and/or additive should I use to
help prevent this galling?

This sounds more like symptoms of lack of lubricant than anything
else. I doubt that you could apply the kind of stress to cause galling
in a properly lubed differential. Maybe in some sort of test stand, but
not in a rig in the real world. Lack of lube WILL cause this though.
