Rubithon, 6/01

I did the Rubicon Trail with my wife and son June 21-24, and my friend Rob McGarty tagged along as well. The FJ55 was full, but not as full as last time. We did the trail as part of the Rubithon 2001 event, put on by the TLCA. I love that trail, and we had a great time. I think next time we'll go in much earlier and spend more time just hanging out. Beyond the great wheeling on the trail, we swam, hiked, played, cooked, ate, sat around and just enjoyed the beautiful surroundings and good friends. Killed a bunch of mosquitoes and fed them with our blood too!

My four-year-old loved it. He's a bit too young to really appreciate the four-wheeling aspect, but he loved being out of the truck in the dirt/water/rocks/trees and also having his mom and dad to himself. (No little sister.) Lauren had a great time. She said it was much better than Moab, because there was more camping, hanging out with a group of friends and less cruisers-cruisers-CRUISERS! (All the chit chat gets to her.) We spent two days at Buck Island, and she said next time we should go in on Monday and spend more time hanging out. Sounds good to me! I think I'll do Mudrak's backwards run next year. I had a great time. No mechanicals, truck worked great. I tried - foolishly - Little Sluice. Got a new dent, didn't get far.

Sam said "Dad, can we stay for sixty eight days?" After eating his second 'smore one night, he said "I just felt the world turn." Camping with a four-year-old is a precious experience. I'm really glad I got to spend so much time with my family and friends up there. Can't wait to go again!

We're talking about doing Fordyce this summer. I am really looking forward to that.
